Bainbridge Public Safety responded to a harassment call on Sunday, June 7, which resulted in the arrest of James Hayes for possession of methamphetamines.

Roses Express contacted BPS officer Maria Bonilla in reference to harassment, however as she was approaching the parking lot, the offender drove off.

Bonilla followed the vehicle before making a stop at the intersection of College Street and Scott Street with the help of Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

As Bonilla approached the vehicle, she reported she could smell a strong odor of marijuana. She then made contact with the driver, Daniel Barfield and passenger, Hayes.

Bonilla asked Hayes for his identification and later asked him to step out of the vehicle. While searching Hayes for contraband, Bonilla located a clear pipe with white residue in his front, right pants pocket.

Bonilla then asked Hayes if he had anything else on him. Hayes confessed to having something in his left pocket. Bonilla then located an empty cigarette box containing a clear baggy with a white crystal like substance inside, which she suspected to be methamphetamines. She also located a baggy of marijuana.

Bonilla then placed Hayes under arrest for possession of methamphetamines and possession of drug related objects before transporting him to the Decatur County Jail.
