Kristy Elkins has been hard at work at Bainbridge Engraving and Awards, where she is creating face shields made from acrylic.

Elkins saw the need for face shields, especially when salons reopened, and quickly ordered impacted acrylic and elastic. She then took her laser to cut out face shields, creating her first two for beauticians who worked next door.

“I wanted the beauticians to try them out first,” Elkins said. “They loved them.”

Once Elkins realized the face shields were a success, she posted on social media they were for sale.

The orders took off like wild fire and Elkins is now in the process of cutting 40 face shields.

On Tuesday morning she picked up additional acrylic, however she’s now having a problem finding elastic to keep up with all the orders. But, she’s not letting that deter her.

Elkins has ordered elastic from Amazon that is set to arrive on Thursday, but she wants to begin sending out the finished product sooner than Thursday. She sought help from Home Depot, hoping to secure elastic in order to quickly fill all orders.

Elkins said the face shields can be made for children or adults.

She made a children’s face shield on Tuesday morning, shrinking the acrylic to fit.

The cost for the face shield is $7. Elkins said she is not making the face shields for a profit, she is only charging what the materials cost, because she knows people are in need of them.

She realizes that more orders may come in soon, once people start wearing the shields in public and is trying to keep up with the need as fast as she can.
