JoAnn Buckhaulter, 84, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

JoAnn Mayfield was born April 30,1936 in Anderson, SC, the daughter of Jesse and Gertie Mayfield. Upon completion of high school, she attended cosmetology school earning a certificate. JoAnn retired from Memorial Hospital & Manor where she spent many years working as a registration clerk. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Family was the most important gift to JoAnn. She had a kind and giving spirit opening the door for all sorts of people, regardless of their life circumstances, to feel loved and appreciated. “MawMaw”, as she was known to her grandchildren, was always full of energy and kept busy. She enjoyed watching murder mystery shows and tending her cats. Her love for ice cream was perfect as there was never a shortage when the grands visited. JoAnn will be remembered as a great mother and friend.

Survivors include her son, Keith Buckhaulter and his wife, Tamara, of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Rebecca & Andrew, Audrey & Parker, and Lindsey; and her great-grandchildren, Natalee, Nathaniel, Piper, Haddon, Scarlett and Elsie.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Buckhaulter; her siblings, Helen, Jeanette, Hazel, Bud, Lillian, and Mary; and her step-daughter, Reneé Newman.
