Carolyn and Buddy married June 11, 1954. She made a career of motherhood until 1970. After moving to Bainbridge, she began working at Tillman Brothers Meat Packing Company as the receptionist. In May 1980, Carolyn and Buddy opened the Decatur Pet Club, where she groomed dogs until the year 2000.

Although she was strict and won the “mean momma” contest among their friends, her daughters thought that she was the best mother in the world. Carolyn never lost her love of people or pets. Talking on the phone was one of her favorite activities! She never missed an opportunity to call her friends and family to wish them a happy birthday on their special day.

She was a feisty, hard worker whose sweet smile and contagious joy always lit up the room. Carolyn loved watching birds and planting flowers in her free time. She deeply loved Jesus and was active in Calvary Baptist Church. She passionately sang in the choir, and having her whole family at church was always very special to her. She adored her grandchildren and loved nothing more than spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.W. “Buddy” Richardson; her parents, William Henry and Effie Shiver; her brother, Billy Shiver; her granddaughter, Mikki Knight.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol (Durwood) Knight and Janet (Evan) Shockley; her grandchildren, Kristi Connell, Dusty (Anna) Knight, Britni Connell, Staci (Ryan) Thomas; her great grandchildren, McKenna, Wesley, and Rachel Knight, as well as her brother, Robert “Bob” (Marie) Shiver and sister-in-law Mary Jo Shiver.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8195 Bainbridge, Ga. 39818. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Carolyn will be held at a later date.
