In response to the school closures throughout Decatur County, Bainbridge Public Safety “Kids ‘n Kops” program, along with the Oak House Children’s Advocacy Center, Decatur County Fire and Rescue, Bainbridge Pepsi and Issacs Bakery have all teamed up to provide free lunches for all school aged- children and teens.

Due to the inside of Bainbridge Public Safety being closed for precautionary measures, the groups are handing out the meals on the front porch of BPS Headquarters, located at 510 Louise Street.

On Monday through Friday, children and teens are encouraged to drive, walk or bike to BPS between noon and 1 p.m. to receive their free lunch. The lunches include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, dessert and two pieces of fruit.

Public information officer, Julie Harris said BPS fed approximately 150 children on Monday, while they fed closer to 225 children on Tuesday.

Harris is allowed a limited number of volunteers to help and currently has all volunteer positions filled. However, she is asking for monetary donations if people would like to help the program. She said she has been going to the store nightly to get more sandwich bags and other additional items as the number of children increase.
