Bearcats, Lady Cats get region win

Bainbridge took a step forward in region play last Friday.

The Bearcats (12-10, 2-4 Region) beat the Harris County Tigers 67-66 and the Lady Cats (9-13, 2-4 Region) handled their business against the Lady Tigers 55-51.

Bainbridge currently sits in fourth place in both the boys and girls regions. With three games left on the schedule, two of which are Region 1-AAAAA matchups, the Bearcats and Lady Cats will continue to fight for higher place finishes to the regular season.

The Bearcats were led against by three players in double figures against Harris County: Mark Taylor Jr. with 15 points and Tyrell Bryant and KJ Cochran with 10 points each. Other scorers for the Bearcats were Dewayne Kyles and Dorrian Cooper with 9 points each, TJ Tarver with 8 points and Lathan Levens with 4 points and Dylun Worlds with 2 points.

In double figures for the Lady Cats was Kirston Noble with 16 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Denise Chappell and Detavia Salter with 8 points each, Destiny Turner and Taralyn Brown with 7 points each, Anndrea Porter with 6 points and India Parris with 3 points.

Bainbridge traveled to region-leading Veterans the following night and unfortunately lost, the Bearcats falling 50-31 and the Lady Cats losing 45-36.

The Bearcats had a tough night and didn’t have anybody in double figures. Dorrian Cooper was scoring leader with 8 points. Other scorers for the Bearcats were KJ Cochran with 7 points, Tyrell Bryant with 5 points, Lathan Levens with 4 points, TJ Tarver with 3 points and Dylun Worlds and Alvanni Williams with 2 points each.

For the Lady Cats, Taralyn Brown led the team with 7 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Destiny Turner and Detavia Salter with 6 points each, Kirston Noble with 5 points, and Denise Chappell, Anndrea Porter and India Parris with 4 points each.

Bainbridge will travel to Warner Robins on Friday and host Thomas County Central. Both games have a girls tipoff of 6 p.m. and a boys tipoff of 7:30 p.m. Bainbridge’s final game of the season is Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Bainbridge Gym.
