Stanley Leroy Kirkland was born August 14, 1944 in Donalsonville, Ga., the son of Leroy and Hortense Griner Kirkland. He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School and worked as the trucking superintendent for FRM. Stanley was a member of Mt. Gilead Free Will Baptist Church.

Family, farming and food were the most important things to Stanley. He enjoyed family functions where he took on the role of provider. Stanley always said if he invited you, all you needed to bring was yourself. He was most content at home. He did not require television, house guests or activity; Stanley loved just being at home. A simple man by the world’s standards, but a giant to his family.

Survivors include his children, Wade & Nicole Kirkland of Brinson, Amy & Harry Smith of Lake City, Fla. and Jordan Kirkland of Tallahassee, Fla.; his siblings, Patricia Thursby of Donalsonville, Ga., Hilda Warner also of Donalsonville, Hiram Kirkland of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Geneva Middleton of Albany, Ga. and his grandchildren, Summer, Caroline and J.D. In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Kelly and William Kirkland.
