Georgia HEART Hospital Program, LLC, is pleased to announce that, as of December 12, 2019, Georgia taxpayers have applied for $41.1 million of the $60 million of rural hospital organization (“RHO”) credits available in 2019. Thus far, in 2019, 3,628 taxpayers from throughout Georgia have contributed $32.6 million to the rural hospitals participating in the Program.

In particular, $1,633,855 has been pledged to Memorial Hospital and Manor in 2019 to help offset costs such as facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, and the rising cost of indigent care.  These funds have come mainly from Decatur County citizens, but also from citizens all across Georgia who care about the struggles that rural hospitals face.

December is the perfect time to “take HEART!” While you are finalizing your year-end giving and tax planning, please consider participating in the HEART tax credit program. Once you apply and are approved by the Georgia Department of Revenue, you will make payment by December 31, 2019. You will then be able to quickly claim that amount as a tax credit – and recoup your investment in our hospital (e.g., through receiving a refund) – when you file your 2019 Georgia return early next year. This means there is very little time during which you are “out-of-pocket” and the impact you can make with no cost to you is immeasurable.

Georgia Heart is also now taking applications for the 2020 tax year.  Hospital planning includes possible improvements to both the Emergency Department and/or Memorial Manor.  Through generous giving, the Georgia Heart Rural Hospital Tax Credit program has allowed Memorial Hospital and Manor to purchase state of the art surgical eye equipment, an infant security system upgrade in the Kirbo Women’s Center, and much more.  These funds help MHM to remain competitive and enables citizens to receive first-rate, quality care close to home.
