Fire Chief Doyle Welch is pleased to announce that Bainbridge Public Safety has been awarded a 2019 Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $79,808.00 in an agreement between the State of Georgia, Georgia Emergency Management, and Homeland Security Agency.

The Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) plays an important role in the implementation of the National Preparedness System by supporting the building, sustainment and delivery of core capabilities essential to achieving the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation.

The grant programs provide funding to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, as well as transportation authorities, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector, to improve the nation’s readiness in preventing, protecting against, responding to, recovering from and mitigating terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other emergencies.

The grants reflect the Department’s focus on funding for programs that address our nation’s immediate security needs and ensure public safety in our communities. Grant recipients are encouraged to use grant funding to maintain and sustain current critical core capabilities through investments in training and exercises, updates to current planning and procedures, and lifecycle replacement of equipment.

The grant was awarded on October 7, 2019 and funds will be used for the purchase of firefighting foam and Hazmat suits.
