Bainbridge showed up for Kirby and the Dawgs

For many of you this weekend it was great to be a Dawg from Bainbridge.

My roommate and I traveled to Athens this weekend to cheer on the Dawgs and visit with our friends and family. While I do love to yell “Roll Tide” at any opportunity, I’ll always have a soft spot for UGA and sometimes say “Go Dawgs” too. This weekend was one of those times.

We arrived late Friday night and immediately went out for a night of celebrating, where even the guest bands couldn’t resist cheering for UGA. They got on the microphone and started chanting, “Who’s that coming down the tracks?” I’ve known the answer to that question since I was a little girl and my parents started taking me to the games, so I quickly, along with hundreds of other fans yelled, “It’s a mean machine in red and black.”

By the end of the party, I was beginning to question who I even liked more: Alabama or Georgia.

After that, we traveled downtown, where I ran into more people from Bainbridge than I can count. I don’t know if they were there for Kirby or were the biggest Dawg fans in the nation, but I will say this town showed up for Kirby’s biggest showdown at home yet. This town does not let him down and even if others thought the team could’ve done something better, this town was sure proud of him.

We stayed out late, meeting other fans, seeing old friends and just celebrating the beginning of a victorious weekend to come.

The next morning it was game day.

I stayed out late for a post- grad, but I was ready to do it all over again for the Dawgs. I dressed in all black, as I heard it was a blackout and went to my family’s tailgate. Later on, I went to find my friends and ran into all of the Bainbridge locals again.

It was soon time for the game, and we headed to a local watering hole to start preparing for what was to be an epic celebration.

When Notre Dame scored first, the fans went silent, but the minute the Dawgs made a touch down, the place became electric. The time passed quickly and when it came down to the final minutes of the game the energy was a full 10/10. When that final touchdown was made, the viewers went wild. Strangely enough, there were a few Auburn fans there who had bet against Georgia, and they were upset, but I sure wasn’t. I love to see a good Auburn fan cry.

The chant started over again and this time everyone was yelling. By the time the chant was done, you couldn’t even move the place was filled with fans galore.

I’ll easily admit those few moments made me wanna be a Dawg really bad. But, those days are long gone.

I slept in late on Sunday, and spent the last few hours before leaving with my friends. We ate lunch at the always-delicious Pauley’s and did some shoe shopping.

The fans, the food and the win were the perfect combination for this epic weekend. I don’t know when I’ll get to go back, but if it’s anything like this past weekend, I hope it’s soon.
