Those who follow the student art shows are well aware of the winning artistic talents demonstrated by the Rentz sisters. They, along with Linda Skidmore, are featured in the Art Across the Ages exhibit that opens Saturday, September 14 with a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Firehouse Gallery on Water Street.

Seventeen-year-old twins Rosie and Bethany Rentz are both seniors at Bainbridge High School. Their older sister Aleyna’s photography, as well as that of Linda Skidmore will display their artistic talents as seen through the eye of the camera. While all their styles are all quite different, each one expresses a distinctive artistic view.

Rosie says her desire to draw was driven from her admiration for Disney Animated classics. “Growing up, these animated films pioneered my inspiration and dream to become an artist.” she explains. She prefers drawing and creating cartoon characters, either shading them or adding vivid colors to bring the creations to life.

Her dream is to further her arts studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design, with the goal of becoming a story board or animated artist and work for the Disney Studios in California.

Art isn’t Rosie’s only talent. She enjoys playing the flute and piccolo in the BHS band as a section leader, performing in shows with the BHS drama program, and leading

BHS literary magazine as head editor.

Bethany also has dreams of continuing her love for art. She has been awarded first place in the drawing category and best overall in the student art shows since 8th grade. Her work is primarily striking pencil portraits of celebrity figures, at which she excels. “I am very excited to be able to share a show with my siblings and another great artist,” she exclaims.

Bethany plans to attend Georgia Southwestern University to become a high school art teacher. Her goal is to inspire children, just as her art teacher Rebecca Long Cole has done for her over the past four years. “I want to be just like her.”

Bethany also is a band member, where she plays the saxophone.

This art show is a first for Linda Skidmore to display her camera art, although she has practiced photography since an early age. She remembers being eight or so years old when given a first camera by her father, who enjoyed photography as a hobby. The family even had a dark room in the basement of their home. “I have played around with photography off and on most of my life. “

Linda’s photos are all taken with her I-Phone, which she adjusts with mixed tiles to best highlight her photos of nature, family and pets. She is a retired teacher with more than 20 years in the education field, as counselor and assistant principal. She, too, is quite excited about being part of this unique exhibit.

In addition to the opening reception, the exhibit will continue to be available on regular Gallery hours Thursdays and Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
