Joseph Barney Whittington was born October 10, 1978 in Thomasville, Ga., the son of Douglas Leo Whittington and Gail Sawyer Whittington. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1996. Joey earned his Associates Degree from Bainbridge College and was currently attending Gulf Coast College pursuing a degree in Digital Media. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Friends describe Joey as a caring person who was a little shy but always friendly and upbeat. He loved spending time with his buddies and his family. His mama’s cooking would bring all the boys to the neighborhood and Joey never minded sharing. He had a soft spot for animals; his rescued cats and dogs found a place of fun and respite in his home. Joey enjoyed video gaming, kayaking and of course, being on “the creek”. He was a die-hard Florida State Seminoles fan. In fact, Joey probably hummed the war chant and tomahawk chopped in his sleep.

Survivors include his parents, Gail S. & Joe Trolinger; his siblings, Jennifer & Charles Hall, Pat Trolinger, Kevin Trolinger and Paul Trolinger; and his niece and nephews, Sawyer, Matt and Will. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Leo Whittington; and his grandparents, Barney Whittington, Gene Pope and Norman & Sybil Sawyer.
