Friday evening at approximately 9 p.m., Decatur County Fire and Rescue, along with Georgia State Patrol responded to a two- vehicle accident in front of Mr. Pipp’s Convenience Store.

A vehicle was leaving the parking lot of the store and pulled out onto the highway as a semi-truck was passing by. The semi truck was unable to stop and the tires of the truck rolled up onto the hood of the vehicle and sheared it off completely. The impact also caused the semi to push the vehicle forward for a distance.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the semi truck driver was uninjured.

Following this accident, Decatur County Fire and Rescue is urging all drivers to use extra caution as they pull onto major highways from roads or parking lots. They ask that they pay attention to their surroundings and particularly oncoming traffic.

While this accident left no one seriously injured, it had the potential to be far worse than it was, DCFR said.
