Mr. Joseph King of Ocala, Fl., died Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at his residence.  Graveside funeral services were Friday, May, 10, 2019,  at 1:00 PM at Colquitt City Cemetery where Rev. Chad Cooper officiated.

Joe was born December 2, 1935, to Ralph and Mary Cleveland King near Brinson, Ga., at Spring Creek.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Joyce Billings King as well as three brothers; Ralph King, David King, and Tommy King; three sisters, Judy King Fallacker, Linda King Moyers, and Sandra King Mack, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Clara Hazel King Paul, Virginia King Davis, and Nina Faye King Napier.

He received a BA degree from Georgia State University and a doctorate from Woodrow Wilson College of Law.

Utilizing the family trait of the love of gab, he even taught classes at the Dale Carnegie Institute.

He retired after 27 years employment with Clayton Federal with 17 of those years as CEO.

He also worked for 10 years in Human Resources for the state of Georgia.

He loved fishing and did so at every opportunity, even sometimes going in his suit after work if someone came by his office with a boat and a plan.

He enjoyed bird hunting, especially the fellowship with the other hunters in the group.

He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and served as the district commissioner.  His trip to Philmont Scout Ranch was a very special memory and his red Philmont jacket a favorite keepsake.

He was ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church of February 19, 1978, and was always very active in the church teaching junior boys and serving on many committees.

He read his Bible every day and had a prayer list so long, it filled many, many pages in his notebook.  He truly loved his Lord and Savior and showed that love always by helping anyone he felt he could help.  He was a happy, cheerful person and loved everyone he met.

He enjoyed reading, especially history and geography.  He enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and a number of other countries.

He was a member of a travel/camping club and looked forward to every trip as long as he was able to travel. 

He was a Master Mason for over 50 years and enjoyed his membership in the Kiwanis Club for over 21 years.  He was on the Board of Directors of Historical Jonesboro for many years.

He always said, “A stranger is just someone I haven’t met yet.”

He will be missed by all who knew him.
