The Bainbridge High School Lady Bearcat varsity soccer team extended their win streak at two by defeating the Brooks County Lady Trojans 4-1 Tuesday night at Centennial Field.
The Lady Trojans struck first in the 5th minute of the game as a Bainbridge failed clearance ball was intercepted by Brooks County forward Jennifer Jimenez who shot and scored from 8 yards away to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, Junior Midfielder Taylor Emmons scored to knot the score at 1.
Emmons took a free kick, following a Brooks County Hand ball foul just outside their penalty area, and lofted a beautiful crossing shot, from 22 yards out to the back post for the score.
Bainbridge quickly took another opportunity and scored a minute later to break the deadlock as Senior Forward Mabry Grace Briggs scored from seven yards away.
Junior Midfielder Jamya Brinson was credited with the assist as she dribbled past two Lady Trojan defenders, before threading a pass to Briggs for the scoring shot.
Bainbridge went into the halftime with a 2-1 lead.
An inadvertent kick by Brooks County resulted in an own goal in the 44th minute to extend the lead at 3-1 in favor of Bainbridge. Brinson sent a corner kick into the Center of the Lady Trojan Penalty area, the Brooks County Goal keeper could not get a handle on the ball and a defender, trying to clear the ball knocked it into the goal.
The final scoring on the night came in the final minute, as Briggs scored on a deflection. Briggs sent a shot at goal that was deflected off the goal keeper and alertly settled the ball and shot from 8 yards in front of the goal for the score and a Bainbridge 4-1 victory.
I thought we picked up the pace a bit following the early Brooks County score and the result was several chances and near misses. I am glad we are making progress, but must continue in our strides in our passing game and defensive prowess.
Bainbridge elevated their record at 4-5 overall on the season.
