With a rained out match on Tuesday, the Lady Bearcats and Bearcats tennis team were ready to hit the courts on Wednesday, facing off against Thomasville.

Number three singles, Gracie Surratt was first off the court, dominating in a 6-0, 6-0 match.

“The girls came out strong,” Coach Amy Thomas said. “Gracie really emerged as a leader; I was very impressed with her efforts being first off the courts.”

Number two singles, Mikey Harrell followed her win with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own. Number one singles, Sydnee Burke finished off the wins with a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Number one doubles team, Bree Powell and Jade Stacey then hit the court, with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Thomasville’s Keisha Patel and Kinsey Kelley. Number two doubles, Sarah Caroline Darley and Anna Marie Hall took the Lady Bearcats tennis team over the edge with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

The Bearcats came out with a 3-2 win after strong competition from Thomasville.

Thomasville’s number one singles player, Dallas Forsythe beat out Robert Bryan Shockley in a 6-2, 6-3 match and number two singles, Cole Buchanan played hard but was eventually beat out after a tie in the first game by Grant Merschman.

Number three singles Austin Aldridge came out on top and got the first win for BHS with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

“I thought Austin did a great job,” Thomas said. “Number three singles players really were the stars of the show today.”

Things continued to go up from there.

Number one doubles Lawson Humphrey and Brad Mitchell played tight in their competition, but eventually won in a 7-5, 7-5 match.

Number two doubles Ben Mitchell and Brent Miller also won their game with a final score of 6-2, 6-2.

“Thomasville is a hard team and I was really proud the boys were able to defeat them,” Thomas said at the end of the match.

The team will play again Tuesday at home against Colquitt County beginning at 4 p.m.
