Although the weather is dreary outside, the City of Bainbridge Parks Department is working hard on lighting up resident’s spirits.

The Parks Department began setting up the annual Lights by the River Monday afternoon, where they will have 10 additional new displays.

The new displays will include a lion, a taekwondo Santa, a school bus with “Decatur Co.” on the side, a standing Angel, a waving snowman, elves wrapping presents, a car with a Christmas tree on top, a “BHS Wrestling” display, shepherd and sheep to add to the existing Nativity scene and two additional tree mounted Angels.

Julie Harris, community relation’s director for Bainbridge Public Safety is in charge of the light display and said the lights will begin Dec. 1 and last through Dec. 31.

The barricade will be put in place as it begins to get dark, so cars will only be able to drive one way through Hatcher Road, but the lights are free and open to everyone.

Friday, Nov. 30, people can walk the lights if they would like. It will be open between the hours of 7 -8 p.m. Harris will be handing out candy canes to people walking through, and said Santa Claus may even make an appearance.

Harris and the Recreation Authority had been in communication about possibly doing a Jingle Jog through the lights on Nov. 30, but that has since been rescheduled. The new jog does not have a date, but once details become available they will be published.

However, when the jog is scheduled it will still not prevent people from being able to drive through the lights, because Harris knows people travel from Tallahassee and Valdosta to see the lights.

She invites everyone to come out and see the new displays and enjoy another year of lights down by the River.
