Thursday afternoon the Lady Cats varsity softball team will face off against Walnut Grove in the Elite Eight.

Coach Christopher Bryant said the team has been doing hitting and fielding practice, but at this point it’s the Elite Eight and everyone is good.

“We are going to have to play this game as hard as we’ve played every other game so far,” Bryant said.

He explained the team has it down to a routine at this point. They are playing every game like they are playing for a championship, however Bryant said this time they may be up against the weather, as there is an 80 percent chance of rain, which means a wet field.

The team will play Walnut Grove at 3 p.m. in Columbus. If they win they will play again at 9 p.m. against the winner of S. Effingham and Loganville.

The team is extremely excited to have made it this far, already making school history for winning a region championship and going undefeated.

To recognize their achievements, the town will send them on a parade route through all the elementary schools and down Shotwell Street.

They will leave at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for all who would like to cheer them off.
