BPS looking into two shootings

Bainbridge Public Safety is investigating two separate shootings from last week that investigators believe to be related.
Last Thursday, BPS responded to a report of shots fired on Wisteria Drive around 1 a.m. Officer Ronald McMillan spoke with a resident who said their home was covered in bullet holes, the report said. He was able to locate 15 empty bullet casings around the outside of the home and 15 holes in the exterior of the residence.
Investigator Chip Nix later arrived on scene and found the washing machine, dryer, stove and refrigerator in the kitchen had been hit by stray bullets. Two bullets went through the kitchen wall and hit a TV in the living room.
Last Thursday night around 11:30 p.m., BPS once again received a call for shots fired, this time at the intersection of Hall and Broughton streets. Officer Maria Bonilla arrived on scene and found a gray Chevrolet Camaro parked in the middle of the street and a man, identified as Cedric Thomas, walking around it.
Thomas was handcuffed and placed in investigative custody. Later it was discovered he left the roadway while driving and struck a curb, crossing over a resident’s yard. He was arrested for Reckless Driving and transported to BPS. He was later released on bond.
A number of shell casings were found on and around Thomas’s vehicle, according to BPS Investigator Chip Nix.
Nix believes the two shootings to be related. He said the second shooting was likely a retaliation to the first one. He and other investigators are currently trying to match statements with the evidence they have collected.
In the meantime, Nix advises anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it immediately to BPS, and if you hear gunshots, find cover immediately.
“The best thing to do is seek cover, or at least concealment,” said Nix. “If you happen to see something, go ahead and immediately make mental note on it or write it down and report what you see to BPS.”
BPS is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any suspects.
