Bearcats win region

The Bainbridge Bearcats left the region track and field meet last week as champions, and the Lady Cats took fourth place.

Multiple Bainbridge track and field athletes were awarded for their performances at the meet.

Twenty-three of them will head to Starr’s Mill High School this Saturday for the state AAAAA sectional meet, including Viviana Schuyler, Nadia Marshall, Destiny Turner, Caron Baulkmon, Tykeia Campbell, Layshawn Wimberly, Diah Brown, Efrain Diaz, Jovan Mims, Caleb McDowell, Alex Baker, Timothy Porter, Caleb Lewis, Tevin McCray, Robert Freeman, Derrick Smart, Ja’Marvin Bouie, Hayden Griffin, Stokes Moore, Jaylyn Scott, Zyon McGee, Roman Harrison and Iran Brown.

The 400 and 1600-meter relay teams were crowned region champions. Stokes Moore was crowned region champion in the 800 meter run and Jaylyn Scout was crowned region champion in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. 

Viviana Schuyler set a new school record in the 1600-meter run. April Thomas was the previous record holder with a time of 5:35.21. The new record is now 5:32.30.

Destiny Turner set a new school record in the Triple Jump. The old record was held by Shawntray Session with a distance of 35-feet-3-inches. The new school record is 35-feet-9-inches.

Jaylyn Scott was voted the Region’s Most Valuable Male Performer.

In the boy’s division, Bainbridge placed first with 195 points, Warner Robins took second place with 150 points, Harris County took third with 106 points, Thomas County Central placed fourth with 105 points and Veterans placed fifth with 102 points.

In the girl’s division, Veterans took first place with 195 points, Warner Robins placed second with 150 points, Thomas County Central took third place with 102 points, Bainbridge placed fourth with 98 points and Harris County placed fifth with 64 points.
