Joe J. Nichols, age 90, of Ideal, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 06, 2018, at Taylor County Health & Rehabilitation Center in Butler, Georgia.
He was born March 18, 1927, in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Eli Nichols and Eunice Willis Nichols. Joe graduated from Bainbridge High in 1943, and began working for Georgia Power. When he turned eighteen, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a WWII Veteran, a Mason and a member of the Ideal Baptist Church. He worked for Georgia Power for over 42 years and retired as a Training and Methods Specialist for the Macon Division.
Services were held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Ideal Baptist Church in Ideal, Georgia. Rev. Brandon Nichols, Rev. Ken Baggett and Rev. Sidney Clay officiated. A graveside service followed that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville, Georgia.
Survivors include his three sons and four daughters-in-law; Randy Nichols (Marcia) of Macon, Georgia, Marlan Nichols (Janie) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Maurice Nichols (Susan) of Macon, Georgia; Alice Nichols of Dublin, Georgia; “UNK’s” niece, Melody Eback (John) of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Emmie Grimes (Dave) Hiawassee, Georgia and Zadie Peters also of Hiawassee, Georgia. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Joseph Nichols, Dana Albertson, Jon Nichols, Jennifer Warren, Jason Nichols, Brandon Nichols, Leslie Nichols, Alex Nichols, Trevor Nichols and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merle Baggerly Nichols; one son, Farrell Nichols; one grandson, Wylder Nichols; and one great-grandson, Nathanial Jackson Warren.
