Dameon Pierce rushes up the field last Friday during a scrimmage against Lowndes. Pierce only needs around 2,000 more yards to be among the top 190 rushers in Georgia high school football history.

Bainbridge running back Dameon Pierce was named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution “Super 11” last weekend.

The AJC Super 11 is a list of the 11 best high school football players in the state. Originating in 1985, the players’ statuses as college prospects, production and potential all go in to choosing the Super 11 every year.

Pierce is a 4-star running back and the top-rated prospect in Georgia at his position. He has a career total 4,656 rushing yards and is 2,000 away from finishing in the top 10 all-time rushers in Georgia.

According to the AJC, there hasn’t been a 5-star running back in the Super 11 since Nick Chubb in 2014. Depending on Pierce’s performance this season, he could earn his fifth star by December.

Bainbridge has not had a player named to the AJC Super 11 since Jonathan Butler in 1994.

Pierce committed to the Florida Gators earlier this month and is a potential early enrollee, meaning he would graduate early and arrive in Gainesville in January.

The number of former Super 11 players who have played in the NFL is 88, according to the AJC, not including eight former Super 11 players who were drafted in 2017.

Other players in the 2017 Super 11 are quarterback Justin Fields (Harrison), linebacker Adam Anderson (Rome), defensive end Brenton Cox (Stockbridge), wide receiver Matthew Hill (Brookwood), wide receiver Kearis Jackson (Peach County), quarterback Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville), defensive end Justin Mascoll (South Gwinnett), running back Kyler McMichael (Greater Atlanta Christian), safety Otis Reese (Lee County) and offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer (Pace Academy).

Pierce and the Bainbridge Bearcats open their season at Lee County on Friday, Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
