BPS routine traffic stop turns into molly bust

Last week, Anthony Rogers Jr. was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, which was later found to be molly.

Sgt. Timothy Mixon was patrolling when he saw a vehicle turn north on to Griffin Avenue without using any turn signals. The car had previously been used in other crimes, Investigator Mark Esquivel said, so they were already skeptical. When approached by Mixon, both the driver and passenger acted evasive about where they got the car from and whom it belonged to.

Esquivel then arrived on the scene and separated the driver and passenger to question them. While Mixon was speaking with Rogers, he noticed a cigar package in Rogers’ boot. Mixon asked if Rogers has anything illegal on him; Rogers responded there was not and that Mixon could search for himself. Mixon began patting him down and asked him to remove his right boot. During the removal, a “small clear baggy containing a white substance fell to the ground.” According to reports, Mixon suspected it was cocaine and Rogers was arrested. After Rogers was handcuffed, Mixon unwrapped the cigar package where he found three more small bags suspected to be cocaine.

Rogers later admitted the substance in the bags were Molly. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and a bond has yet to be reported.

Esquivel, Chip Nix, Jayson Myers, Chris Avery, Larry Funderburke, and K-9 Unit, Kenzo also received a tip this week about the smell of marijuana from a residence on Love Street. After obtaining a search warrant, they approached the residence and confiscated more than 5.5 ounces of marijuana. Terrance Evans and Shamika Evans were both arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
