Martha Gail Cross was born August 8, 1958, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Charlie B. Cross and Martha Shattles Cross. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1977. Gail retired with 32 years of service as a guidance secretary with Decatur County Schools. She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Gail had a heart of gold always rooting for the underdog. She was a strong Christian and believed “God’s got this”. Her school kids became part of her family and for over three decades she loved children from every corner of Decatur County. Gail enjoyed music and movies, especially Elvis and Southern Gospel. She was a strong woman and battled bravely knowing cancer could never win. Layton, Isabelle and Jon Michael brought joy to her heart and reminded her every good and perfect gift comes from God.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Wayne Gause; her children, Mia Gause Hall of Brinson and Brandon Gause and his wife, Samantha, of Bainbridge; her mother, Martha Jean Cross; her siblings, Diane Atkinson and Dennis Faircloth, Sue Sandlin and her husband, Kenny, and Charlie B.
