Al Bernier was born August 12, 1929, in Pelham, Ga., the son of Albert A. Bernier and Myrtle Corbin Bernier. He served his country in the United States Navy. Al was married to Nell Roberts for 63 years, who preceded him in death. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Baraca Sunday School Class.
Many will remember Al as their neighborhood insurance agent having served many families in southwest Georgia. Al loved to travel and enjoyed playing a round or two of golf. If he wasn’t on the road or the golf course, you could find him working in his garden. He planned many camping trips and continued to share the tall tales of “the big one that got away” on his fishing excursions.
Survivors include his children and their families, Tommy and Patty Bernier of Climax, Ga., Alex & Trey Byrd and Sullivan; Janet and Richard McClelland of Bainbridge, Brittany, Rick and Jini McClelland; Denise and Billy Deal of Cairo, Ga., Trey White and Jennifer White, Brandy and John Graham and Julianna and Alithia Graham; and his brothers, Walt Bernier of Pelham, and Gerard and Barbara Bernier of Camilla, Ga.
