A region doubleheader against Harris County last Friday night gave Bainbridge a much-needed win, but the Bearcats couldn’t hold on in game two.

In game one, Bainbridge grabbed a late lead with a hot fourth inning as the Bearcats brought in four runs. The Tigers had a midgame comeback in game two for a 6-5 win.

The first game was tied at two with Bainbridge batting in the bottom of the fifth. Keith Lyle banged out a triple to drive in two more runs and give Bainbridge the lead.

Will Kelley threw five and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, eight hits, and walking zero. He recorded the win for the Bearcats. Nick Barber struck out the last four Tiger batters and earned the save.

Carson Inlow went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bearcats in hits. He also scored a run and had an RBI. Connor Strickland and Calen Boutwell both went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Game two started with both teams tied 3-3 going into the second inning.

Bainbridge added another run to the board in the second inning, but the lead slipped away in the top of the fourth when Harris County drove in three more runs to make the score 6-4. The Bearcats immediately responded by scoring another run, but couldn’t get their bats going for the rest of the game.

Bainbridge lost despite out-hitting Harris County eight to seven.

Keith Lyle, Carson Inlow and Noah Bryant each collected multiple hits for the Bearcats. Bryant, Inlow, and Lyle each managed two hits to lead the team.

Dalton Harrell took the loss for Bainbridge. He pitched four innings, giving up six runs, five hits, striking out five and walking one.

Bainbridge returns to action Wednesday to play Leon at home at 4:30 p.m., followed by a major region doubleheader against Thomas County Central (6-0 region). On April 7, Bainbridge has a doubleheader against Warner Robins for the final region games of the season.

The Yellow Jackets currently hold the lead in Region 1-AAAAA, followed by Veterans at 5-1 and Harris County at 5-3. Warner Robins lingers behind Bainbridge at 0-8. Sweeping Warner Robins on April 7 would keep Bainbridge at fourth place heading into the region tournament.
