Bainbridge’s second no-hitter of the season came against Crisp County Tuesday as Will Kelley went all six innings on the mound.

Kelley struck out four Cougars while allowing only two walks in the 11-0 win. He was also a major contributor at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

“It was a very good night for Will,” coach Brian McCorkle said. “He did a good job of keeping the ball down and balanced and never letting them get comfortable at the plate.”

The Bearcats (3-2) also did well playing defense behind Kelley, McCorkle said.

On offense, Bainbridge took advantage of being walked and moved around the bases well.

Bainbridge had nine hits in the game. Griffin Long, Noah Bryant and Kelley each collected multiple hits. Long also had three RBIs, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Bainbridge grabbed an early lead in the first inning when Kelley doubled to score Keith Lyle. The Bearcat scored three runs in both the third and the sixth innings.

Ty Johnson took the loss for Crisp County. He threw two and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs, five hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Bainbridge began Region 1-AAAAA play Friday against Veterans, the team favored to win the region. With three wins under their belt and two losses to a couple of the state’s top teams, McCorkle is proud of the way Bainbridge has practiced and played.

“We talk to our guys about keeping the momentum going,” McCorkle said. “We just have to keep doing the things we are doing and making sure we are getting better every day in practice.

We have kids who work extremely hard and want to be good ball players.”

Bainbridge’s next game is Monday, Feb. 27, away against Brookwood at 5:30 p.m. The Bearcats come home for a region game against Thomas County Central Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m.
