The Bainbridge Lady Cats (19-8) came in second place in the Region 1-AAAAA Tournament on Saturday after dominating Harris County 60-36 in the semifinals and then losing to Warner Robins 56-51 in the championship game.

As the No. 2 seed, Bainbridge will host Fayette County Friday at 6 p.m. at the Bainbridge Gym.

The Lady Cats were leading 30-16 at halftime against the Lady Tigers.

Nadia Marshall led the team with 18 points, followed by Tytania Rosborough and Tyra Smart both with 13 points.

The three players were fierce from the 3-point line. Marshall was 2-for-4, Roseborough was 3-for-6 and Smart was 3-for-5.

“We hit shots early, hit some threes early on and shot the ball well from the outside,” Coach Kelvin Cochran said. “Our pressure worked. They turned the ball over a lot. We still had our same game plan in. We just executed it.”

Warner Robins was a little different, Cochran said.

“We struggled, and we battled foul trouble,” Cochran said.

Marshall fouled out with four minutes left in the game, leaving the Lady Cats without their top scorer.

“The girls kept playing through the end, though,” Cochran said. “Everybody at the game was proud of them.”

Marshall had a double-double as she poured in 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Smart added 10 to the board.

According to Cochran, the loss came down to the free throw line for Bainbridge. Roseborough was 1 of 6, and Mycha Harris was 2 of 4. Marshall hit 8 of 10. The first seven free throws the Lady Cats took missed the bucket.

“We also turned the ball over and they got easy transition baskets,” Cochran added.

Fayette County won its Region Championship Friday night and enter the State Playoffs with a 20-8 record. Cochran said the team is similar to the Lady Cats.

“I’ve looked at them the last two days,” Cochran said. They are kind of similar to us. They have a similar starting five to our girls. We are going to have a chance. We just have to play hard and put in the game plan. Limit what they do. Try to make their weaker players beat us.”
