Talmadge Adam “Sonny” Rentz, 84, of Lake Seminole, Ga., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Matt Bracewell and Rev. Greg Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Adam Rentz, Lucas Rentz, Lee Edmonds, Erik Merritt, Austin Hall, David Donalson and Ted Lee serving as active pallbearers. The Men of Mt. Zion Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Talmadge Adam Rentz was born August 15, 1932, in Newton, Ga., the son of Byron Rentz and Sadie Musgrove Rentz. He married Betty Jane Phillips in 1953, and was a member and deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Sonny was not much on traveling, but enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He was a small business owner and made many connections throughout Southwest Georgia. Sonny could always find something to piddle with outdoors. He loved fishing, beekeeping, gardening, tending his fruit orchard and raising chickens. Sonny’s family was his greatest gift and he treasured them above all else.

Survivors include his wife of almost 64 years, Betty Phillips Rentz; his children, Rhonda R. Murphy and her husband, Donnie, of Bainbridge, Phillip Rentz and his wife, Anna, of Leesburg, Lisa Rentz Merritt and her husband, Wayne of Canton, NC, and Tom Edmonds of Seminole County; his grandchildren, Adam and Amanda Rentz, Lucas Rentz, Briana and Matt Bracewell, Lee and Stephanie Edmonds, Erik Merritt and Ryan Bare; and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Topanga, AddaLynn, Jasmine, Riggs, Zoey, Caleb, Watson, Erika, Ridge and Griffi

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Bertha, Henderson, Charlie, Alvin, Maude, Giley, Margaret, Hattie, Myrtice, Bernard and Garnet; and his granddaughter, Courtney Singletary.
