The Bainbridge Lady Cat’s basketball team picked up two more wins over the weekend, beating Tift County and Seminole County on the road.

The game against Tift on Friday, Feb. 3, was a close one for the Lady Cats. Bainbridge jumped out to an 8-point lead in the first quarter, scoring eight and holding Tift scoreless. Tift surged a little bit in the second quarter, scoring 12 and holding Bainbridge to only 6 to head in to halftime with a score of 14-12 with Bainbridge up.

The second half had a more even score line, with Bainbridge outscoring Tift in both the third and fourth quarters. Bainbridge scored nine in the third and held Tift to only eight. In the fourth, Bainbridge scored 17 and held Tift to 14.

Nadia Marshall led the Bearcats in scoring with 19 points, and she led in rebounding with 14.

“It was a low scoring game,” said Head Coach Kelvin Cochran. “They tried to limit her (Marshall), but we got her the ball in some places where she could score.”

Saturday’s game against Seminole County was more of a blow out. The Lady Cats beat the Indians 59-21 to end the regular season with a big win.

The game was well in Bainbridge’s hands from the first quarter. The Lady Cats never let Seminole County have any hope after the first quarter, outscoring Seminole in each quarter. Bainbridge only led by 2 after the first quarter, but then at halftime Bainbridge was leading by 15. The second quarter was when Bainbridge really pulled away, scoring 18 and only allowing Seminole to score five.

The second half was a continuation of the second quarter’s dominance. Bainbridge scored 18 more in the third quarter and held Seminole scoreless.

Since Bainbridge jumped out to such a large lead, a lot of the younger girls were able to get some playing time, according to Coach Cochran. 

The Lady Cats play Harris County in the first round of the region playoffs on Friday, Feb. 10, at Warner Robins.
