Cougars battle through two close games

The Grace Christian Academy boys’ basketball team defeated Crisp Academy and lost to Georgia Christian in two close battles last week. The Cougars defeated Crisp 44-43 thanks to a fourth quarter rally before falling to Georgia Christian 35-34 later in the week.

Against Crisp, Sam McRae led all scorers with 16 points. He also had three rebounds and two steals. The Cougars fell behind early as Crisp took a 21-12 lead at the end of the first. The teams were almost even for the next two quarters and Crisp lead 38-30 entering the fourth. The Cougars wouldn’t back down though and held Crisp to only five points in the fourth quarter as they scored 14 to claim the one point victory.

Jared Duke added 13 points in the win and Clay Wells led the team with six rebounds.

Against Georgia Christian, the Cougars held a 15-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Grace Couldn’t hold onto the lead though as Georgia Christian used the next two quarters to cut the deficit and take a one point lead entering the fourth and eventually the 35-34 win.

McRae was the team’s leading scorer with 10 points and he also scored his 1,000th career point in the game. Senior Nate Walton had three points and seven rebounds o senior night.
