Monday update:
Georgia State Patrol has confirmed that Gregory Whitehead, 51, of Tallahassee died in the two-vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 27 South Friday afternoon. According to Walt Landrum of GSP, Whitehead was killed on impact when his Chrysler van hit a semi truck.
“[The truck] was disabled in the right hand lane and for unknown reasons [the van] struck [the truck] in the rear,” Landrum said.
Landrum said that the cause of the accident is still under investigation, but that it has been determined that Whitehead never braked before hitting the truck although he had plenty of site distance.
A reconstruction team was called to the site to assist in the investigation, which is still open pending a final coroner’s report and analysis of the crash details.
