James Walter Suggs

James Walter Suggs, age 86, of Donalsonville, Ga., passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Suggs were held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Hammock Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Donalsonville, with Dr. Gary Smith and Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating.  Interment followed in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Kevin Suggs, Josh Suggs, Brock Smith, Eddie Taylor, Frankie Taylor, Lonnie Suggs, and Earl Cochran serving as active casketbearers. Visitation was held on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Suggs was born in Colquitt, Ga. on May 12, 1930 to John Brocklin Suggs and Lily Everett Suggs.  He served his country in the United States Air Force and worked as a mechanic with John Deere, the company from which he retired after 52 years of hard work.  Mr. Suggs was a member of Hammock Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Othelia Suggs of Donalsonville; a son, Ricky Suggs of Cedar Springs, Ga.; a daughter, Tamara Suggs Bradley and husband Bryan “Red” Bradley of Bainbridge, Ga.; and a sister, Shirley Cunningham of Donalsonville. Mr. Suggs is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Suggs, Tarrah Suggs, Josh Suggs, Kasey Smith, Brock Smith and wife Ashley, and Ashlee Hornsby and husband Will; as well as 11 great grandchildren.

Mr. Suggs was preceded in death by his parents, John Brocklin Suggs and Lily Everett Suggs; several brothers and sisters; a son, Rodney Suggs; and a daughter-in-law, Angie Suggs.
