Hazel was an independent woman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with her children and grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for helping others and often took on the jobs many would shy away from. Hazel loved her church, Whigham Baptist Church, and longed for others to know Christ. Many times she sat with others during their final days showing them the love of Christ. Hazel preached her own funeral through her acts of service and the life she lived. Her life was her testimony.
Survivors include her sons, Charles D. Phillips and Durwood E. Phillips and his wife, Pam, all of Whigham; her loving sister, Annie Laura Owens of Cairo, Ga.; her grandchildren, Keith (Amanda) Phillips, Dustin (Sloan) Phillips, Brandon Phillips and Tyler Phillips; and her great-grandchildren, Preslei, Landon, Annalise , Madilynn and Cohen.
