The Decatur County School Board will have a called meeting on Friday, May 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the School Support Center to officially hire Tim Cochran as the new school superintendent.

The Board named Tim Cochran as the sole finalist for the position at a called meeting on Thursday, May 12 and they can now officially hire him as the 14 day waiting period required by law will have passed.

Tim Cochran is currently the superintendent in Atkinson County, a position that he has held since 2011.

“He’s well respected, has good people skills, seems to be very knowledgeable,” school board chairman Sydney Cochran said at the time of the announcement. “We feel very confident that he will fit in well here and be a good fit for our community and a good leader for our school system and we’re excited about him being here.”

Tim Cochran will replace Dr. Fred Rayfield, who announced in February that he had accepted the same position in Union County.

“We will work those details out, between working with my board and working with them so that my board is in a good place to transition as well,” Tim Cochran said following the initial announcement about when he plans to start.
