Bearcats receive honors as All-region baseball teams are announced

Six Bainbridge Bearcat baseball players have been recognized with All-Region honors in Region 1-AAAA.

Senior pitcher Ty Varnum was named first-teal All-Region in the voting done by the 11 region coaches. Varnum led the Bearcats with a 6-4 record with a 1.82 ERA and 48 strikeouts.

Keith Lyle, junior shortstop, also earned first team honors after finishing the year with a .477 batting average, 2 home runs, 26 RBIs, and 42 runs scored.

Sophomore outfielder Caleb Boutwell rounds out the Bearcats who made the first team. Boutwell finished the year with a .337 batting average while playing tremendous defense in right field.

“All six of these guys are fine team leaders and contributed heavily to a great season for our team,” said head coach Brian McCorkle. “It’s nice for them to receive individual honors from our region’s head coaches.”

Junior catcher Noah Bryant made the second-team All-Region team after posting a .308 batting average for the year with 20 RBIs. Bryant was also solid defensively, making only four errors resulting in a .978 fielding percentage.

Carson Inlow, junior centerfielder for the Bearcats, was also named to the second team. Inlow batted .321 on the season with 27 runs scored. Inlow was perfect defensively, making no errors in the outfield.

Also named second team All-Region was sophomore third baseman Will Kelley. Kelley batted .330, led the team with 29 RBIs and hit 13 doubles on the year. While not named to the team as a pitcher, Kelley posted a 5-1 record on the mound, as well.

The Bearcats finished the year with a 21-9 overall record, making it to the second round of the state playoffs.
