Freshmen and Sophomore track teams compete in Tallahassee

Coach Patrick Clark’s Bainbridge High School freshmen and sophomore Lady Cats and Bearcats track teams turned in a number of strong performances Thursday at the 16th annual Chiles High School Freshman-Sophomore Championships in Tallahassee.

The Lady Cats’ Cyan Gant finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet and the Bearcats’ Deandrea Lewis and Jordan Oliver finished ninth and tenth in the long jump with leaps of 11-6 and 10-11.

In the boys’ 110-meter hurdles finals the Bearcats’ Jaylyn Scott finished eighth in a time of 16.71 seconds and in the boys’ 1600 Colby Nix finished 11th in a time of 5:36.92.

In the girls’ 100 hurdles finals the Lady Cats’ Amaia Taylor finished fifth in a time of 21.10 and 100 Tyaisha Gant finished sixth in a time of 13.93.

In the girls’ 1600 Camry Fillingame and Aileen Mejia finished ninth and 10th in times of 6:42.66 and 6:54.39. In the girls 200 Shaqera Kinchen finished 10th in a time of 29.59.

In the girls’ 300 hurdles Amaia Taylor finished third in a time of 54.17 and her teammate Erin Jones finished seventh in a time of 1:07.96.

In the boys 200 Bearcat Zyon McGee finished eighth in a time of 24:57, Timothy Potter finished 15th in a time of 25.47, LaDerrick Williams finished 25th in a time of 25.96 and Darren Merritt finished 31st in a time of 27.29.

In the boys 300 hurdles Jaylyn Scott finished first in a time of 42.4. Anthony Rodriquez finished 17th in the 3200 in a time of 12:43.39, Colby Nix finished 18th in a time of 13:12.50 and Kadeen Goss finished 21st in a time of 15:17.23.

In the boys 200 Jeremiah Hodge finished seventh in a time of 56.52, Jalyn Scott finished 15th in a time of 1:00.61 and Perry Sweet finished 23rd in a time of 1:05.49.

In the 800 Keenen Stevensen finished 22nd in a time of 2:37.43.

Coach Clark said he was very pleased with the performance of his freshmen and sophomores in Tallahassee .

“Everyone really ran and jumped well,” he said. “The competition was strong but we were really focused.”

The Bearcat and Lady Cat varsity team will be competing in the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets Invitational Meet Saturday.
