Mr. Sylvester Davis, Jr., age 76, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, in Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, Ga. after an extended illness. He is a native of Vidalia, Ga.. He attended J.D. Dickerson High School in Vidalia, and graduated from Emanuel County High School in Swainsboro, Ga.. He was known by family and friends as “Brother” or “Dave”.
After a brief stint in the United States Navy he spent most of his adult life in Boston, Mass. He was an entrepreneur, owning and operating several shoe repair and shoe shine shops in the Boston area. He is preceded in death by his sister Juanita Davis and parents Sylvester and Corine Davis, Sr.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lillie “Lil” Dixon Davis of Bainbridge, Ga. and daughter Eunice “Giovanni” Davis of Baltimore, Md.. He loved to travel with his wife Lil and to entertain friends and family. Also mourning his death are his sister Dorothy Davis Williams of Vidalia; brother Charles (Virginia) Davis of Macon, Ga.; brother-in-law Phillip Dixon and sister-in-law Annie Jackson of Bainbridge; Brother-in-Law Phillip Dixon of Boston; Brother-in-law Willie Dixon of Cape Cod, Mass. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at Nelson Chapel AME Church in Bainbridge on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1p.m. with the Rev. George Price of Jacksonville, Fla. officiating.
The family will receive friends at Collins Family Mortuary 5pm – 7pm., at 502 W. Shotwell, Bainbridge.
