DCSO deputy involved in shooting

Update 1:55 p.m. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the Decatur County man injured in a deputy-involved shooting with a Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Deputy.

According to the GBI, deputies responded to an Azalea Circle home around 12:50 Wednesday morning regarding a reported suicide threat. Evan Wayne Lashley, 25, who resided at the location had made the threatening statement in an earlier phone call to friends.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to “de-escalate” the situation by negotiation, but Lashley declined assistance. During the incident, Lashley displayed a shotgun, and one deputy fired his weapon, according to the GBI.

The GBI is currently conducting interview witnesses and review body-camera footage from the DCSO deputies.

Lashley will be charged with Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Theft by Taking.

Original – The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating a shooting by a Decatur County Sheriff’s Office deputy early Wednesday morning.

The deputy responded to a call on Azalea Circle in south Decatur County between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., according to Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin. The situation led to the deputy using his gun on a civilian.

Griffin said his officer did an excellent job in handling the situation.

“I was well pleased with the actions of the officer,” Griffin said.

The civilian was immediately transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and is not in critical condition.

The name of the deputy has not been released by GBI.
