Twenty-eight youngsters completed the first week of Youth Art Classes at the Firehouse Gallery this week, where they explored several art mediums.

The budding young artists were in two groups: students in grades two through four and five through seven.

The theme of the classes was folk art, where students made items of clay, wood, metals, and textiles, in addition to painting fish and animals, and learning to use cameras in a session on photography. Instructors were Ashley Long, Ali White, Rebecca Long Cole and Rebecca Kasilous.

Students worked every weekday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on their projects.

A second week-long session will begin Monday, July 13 with a new group of students.

A special show will be held at the Firehouse Gallery on Sunday, July 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. demonstrating the work of both classes.

The public is invited to come see the work of these rising talented young people of the community.
