Jessie Ann Drake Shepard, 90, of Colquitt, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, in Americus, Georgia after an extended illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday. June 2, 2015, at 2p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Cox and Rev. Rebecca Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Colquitt City Cemetery with Dane Shepard, Blake Shepard, Peter Snyder, Richard Spancake, Jr., David Cox, Ronald Rentz, and Wes Vann serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015, from 1-2 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shepard was born on February 8, 1925, to the late Jesse A. Drake and Myrtice Perry Drake. She married Joseph O. Shepard on August 11, 1949. She assisted in her father’s law office and various businesses, but was primarily a homemaker who devoted her life to caring for the needs of her family, always remembering birthdays and sharing her family’s heritage with younger generations. She possessed a loving heart and generous spirit. She was a member of Colquitt United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shepard is survived by two sons, Joseph Michael Shepard (Deborah) of Americus, and Danny Stephen Shepard, and daughter-in-law, Dawn Phillips Shepard of Colquitt; four grandchildren, Dane Michael (Shannon) Shepard, Joey Shepard (Peter) Snyder, Brittany Dawn Shepard, and Stephen Blake (fianc’ee Laura) Shepard; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her two sisters, Virginia Drake Hester, and Margie Drake Spancake.
The family will gather at the Shepard residence, 707 East Main Street in Colquitt.
