Seven Bainbridge track and field athletes heading to State Meet

Seven members of coach Larry Cosby’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats rack team qualified for the May 14, 15 and 16 State Class AAAA Track Meet in Jefferson with strong performances at the in the Class AAAA Sectional Meet Saturday at Carrollton High School.

Competitors in the sectional meet represented the top four competitors from all 16 track and field events from AAAA Regions 1, 3, 5 and 7.

The top eight sectional meet finishers will advance to the state meet. State Meet qualifiers included Poncherella Leonard, who won the 100-meter run in a personal best time of 1:58.16, and Victor Bodison, who won the long jump with a personal best distance of 22-feet-4-inches and was seventh in the high jump with six feet.

Cervantes Jackson, who was second in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 14.69 and second in the long jump with a leap of 46-feet-3-inches and fifth in the high jump with a lap of six feet.

Chase Harris qualified for the state meet in the 4200-meter run with a second place time of 9:59.23. Isaiah Brown qualified for the state meet in the 110-meter hurdles with a third place personal best time of 15.13.

Jaylyn Scott qualified for the state meet in the 300-meter hurdles with a fourth place time of 40.56.

Jean Jeanty, who was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet-10-inches at the sectional meet, will also be competing in the state meet.
