The Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Bearcats football team is busily preparing for Thursday’s Southwest Georgia Middle School League Championship game against the Thomas County Central Middle School eighth grade Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m. at Centennial Field.
“Central is always strong and this season is no exception,” eighth grade Bearcats head coach Heith Maxwell said. “Our strength all season has been our running game. Tristen Love and Ed Jones both run hard and Aaron Spivie is kind of our change of pace guy. He has good speed and can get outside and turn the corner.”
Aaron is the brother of Bainbridge High School Bearcats junior running back Dalvin Spivie.
Maxwell said Bowen Dodson was a dual offensive threat. He blocks and catches passes at tight end and also picks up good yardage when he lines up at fullback,”
Offensive linemen who provide the key blocks on running plays include Ben Mitchell, Bradley Mitchell, Grant Darley, Jacob Floyd, Cuyler Duke, and Jacob McMillian.
“All of our offensive linemen have experience at various positions,” Maxwell said. “Offensively, Central runs the split back very, which is an offense you don’t see a lot. You have to put in some extra preparation to make sure your defense is ready for it.”
Regardless, Maxwell believes his players were ready to play and continue their winning streak.
“Our young men are really looking forward to the challenge,” Maxwell said.
