GCA Lady Cougars win 2-of-3 road games

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team had a successful road run recently, winning two out of three Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 2 matches. They shut out First Presbyterian Christian School 3-0 Thursday, Sept. 25, in Hinesville and shut out Memorial Day School 3-0 in a Region 2 match Friday, September 26 in Savannah.

The lady Cougars lost a 3-0 Region 2 match to Frederica Academy Saturday, Sept. 27, in St. Simons Island.

In their victory over First Presbyterian Christian, the Lady Cougars won the first set 25-17, won the second set 25-13 and won the third set 25-15. Kelsey Harrell led them with nine kills, and Katlyn Holcombe with five kills. Perra Harrell and Lindsey Duke both converted 11-of-12 serves for a strong 92 percentage. Sarah Castoro had five digs, McKenzie Brown had three blocks and Lindsey Duke had 18 assists.

In their victory over Memorial Day School, the Lady Cougars won the first set 25-16, won the second set 25-11 and won the third set 25-6. They were led by Harrrell with 13 kills, Duke with a 22-of-22 100 percent serve percentage, Castoro with three digs and Duke with 21 assists.

In their match with Frederica Academy, the Lady Cats lost the first set 25-16, lost the second set 25-18 and lost the third set 25-19. They were led by Harrell with 10 kills, Holcombe with five kills, Duke with a 14-of-14 100 percent serve percentage and 19 assists and Castoro with nine digs.

They will host First Presbyterian Christian in a rematch Thursday, Oct. 9, at Perry Memorial Gymnasium before traveling to Quincy Florida for a Tuesday, Oct. 14 match with Robert F. Munroe School.

The Lady Cougars will take on Northside Methodist Thursday, Oct. 16 in Dothan, Alabama, before concluding their regular season Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they host Sherwood Academy at home. The Georgia Independent Schools Association Tournament will be Friday and Saturday Oct. 24 and 25 in Newnan.
