The City of Bainbridge will open the Avenue C waste transfer station for public use beginning Thursday, Oct. 2.

Dropping off items will be free of charge, as long as the customer provides a copy of his or her City of Bainbridge utility bill. The station will be open every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until noon and every first Saturday of the month from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

“The idea is we want to get the pick-up stuff off the curb because it looks bad,” said City Manager Chris Hobby.

The city will continue to offer curbside pickup for a minimum fee of $200, Hobby said.

Hobby said that there will be a separate entrance for the public to access dumpsters and that there will be staff on site to guide public.

“We want to make it easy on people so it’s not a huge pain or inconvenience, but we also want to clean up the city,” Hobby said.

According to a release from the city, building material such as sheet rock, shingles, lumber, wood, tile, fence; hazardous material; chemicals; batteries; tires or paint may not be dropped off at the station.

Hobby said that the staff will monitor the times people come and make necessary adjustments depending on when more people come to the station.
