The Bainbridge Bearcats currently are tied for the lead in Division B of Region 1-AAAA, sharing the spot with 2-1 Westover of Albany.

Behind the Bearcats and the Patriots stand Dougherty (1-1), Worth County (1-1) and Americus-Sumter (1-2).

Last Friday, Westover defeated Northside Columbus 31-10 in Columbus. Senior defensive tackle Trent Thompson, a Georgia commit, had 14 tackles, five for a loss and one sack.

The Bearcats head into their third cross-division game of the season against Thomas County Central Friday, who are second place in Division A behind Cairo (2-1) and currently ranked seventh in Class AAAA by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Yellow Jackets are 1-1 and were winning against Americus-Sumter 20-12 at halftime last Friday before the game suffered weather delays. The second half will be made up next Thursday in Thomasville.

The AJC also has the Syrupmakers standing ninth in Class AAAA. Last Friday, they lost 19-7 to West Florida (Pensacola) in Cairo.

After the Monroe Tornadoes (1-2) lost 7-6 at Bainbridge last Friday, they are hosting a non-region game with Liberty County Saturday.

Behind Monroe is Albany High School (0-2) and Crisp County (0-3).

So far, no team in Region-1 AAAA has played a game within their own division. The Bearcats begin Division B play against Americus-Sumter at Centennial Field Friday, Oct. 3.

“We have to continue getting better so we’re starting to gain some momentum during our (division) play,” Bearcats coach Jeff Littleton said.
