Grady EMC

Over the last few weeks, a group has purchased advertising in The Post Searchlight to paint Grady EMC in a negative light. Unfortunately, the only member of this group that we are aware of has declined all offers to meet with the EMC board to discuss and address any concerns and has instead sought to provoke distrust and negativity in the community.

We know our members expect the highest quality service and effective leadership, which is why I’m writing this letter to offer broader context and perspective. Let me start by assuring everyone in this community that Grady EMC’s finances and operations have never been stronger, and we continually look for ways to improve. The quality of leadership from the elected board of directors and the hard work of our committed employees are reflected in the success of our cooperative.

Grady EMC is in the best financial position in its 75‐year history. This is a result of constant focus on our number one goal: to ensure our members enjoy reliable, affordable power. Board members and leaders at the EMC are constantly focused on the cooperative’s long‐term good.

We’ve had stable rates for two decades, which based on the Georgia Public Service Commission’s recent summer rate survey, are in the lower third of rate prices among the state’s EMCs. In addition, Grady EMC’s success is also reflected in our outstanding reliability (rated at higher than 99%), top‐notch equipment and a successful, well‐trained workforce.

The fact is, Grady EMC always has been, and always will be, our members’ EMC. Earning and maintaining member trust and respect is important to us. Any member is welcome to meet with the president and the board if you have concerns or ideas for improving the cooperative. Grady

EMC is also audited by both an independent auditor and the USDA Rural Utilities Service.

We invite our members to call us, visit our office and participate in the annual meeting to understand the work that goes into keeping their lights on.

The board and employees of Grady EMC have planned and diligently worked to bring our members affordable, reliable power for decades, and we are committed to doing the same for decades to come. We appreciate and value your support.

Lamar Carlton

Chairman of the Board
