Youth shine in final day of basketball camp at YMCA

Youngsters ranging in age from 10 to 15 showed off their free throw and hotshot shooting skills Thursday on the final day of competition at Bainbridge High School Bearcats head basketball coach Rickey McCullough’s basketball game at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.

Campers competed in two divisions, one for 10 and 11-year-olds and one for 12 to 15-year-olds.

During the hotshot competition, youngsters demonstrated their proficiency in shooting layups and outside jump shots.

Coach McCullough said he was very pleased with the progress from the youngsters during the four-day camp.

“All of you improved your dribbling, shooting and ball handling skills this week,” McCullough said as the players gathered around him Thursday. “I am proud of all of you and I know because you worked hard every day”

In the 10 to 11-year-old free throw shooting competition, Lex Thompson finished first and Davonte Stepney finished second. In the 12 to 15-year-old free throw shooting competition, Timothy Porter finished first and Timothy Tarver finished second.

In the 10 and 11-year-old hotshot competition, Davonte Stepney finished first and Eric Sanders finished second.

In the 12 to 15-year-old hotshot competition, Timothy Tarver finished first and Timothy Porter finished second.
