Barracuda girls freestyle, medley team finishes second at district meet

The Bainbridge-Decatur County Decatur County YMCA Barracudas 11 and 12-year-old girls medley and freestyle relay teams of Emily Sullivan, Masey Tabb, Brooklyn Willis and Sandy Baker finished second in both events at Saturday’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 3 Meet Saturday in Tifton.

They now qualify for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Meet.

Their medley relay time was 2:35.48 and their free style relay time was 2:16.45.

Tabb also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 33.33 and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:15.69. Brooklyn Willis finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:14.47.

The State Meet will be this Friday and Saturday, July 18-19, in Tifton.

Local businesses are urged to put signs out congratulating the Barracudas as they get ready for the state meet. The Barracudas finished sixth overall at the District Meet.

The top four finishing relay teams and individual finishers qualified for state. Fourth place finishers will be 9 and a 10-year-old girl alternates.

Dax Willis won the 9 and 10-year-old girls 25-yard breaststroke in a time of 22.10 and the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 42.23.

Sullivan qualified for state by winning the 11-and 12-year old girls 550-yard breaststroke in a time of 41.27 and Baker qualified for state by finishing third in the 11-and 12-year-old 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:22.54.

Willis finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 14.47.

Paige Overman finished second in the 9-and-10-year-old girls 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:48.51 and fifth in the 25-yard breaststroke in a time of 25.37.

Thad Whitaker finished third in the 13 and-14-year-old boys 100-yard-free style in a time of 13.65 and fourth in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:34.76.

Sandy Baker finished third in 11 and 12-year-old girls 50-yard butterfly, in a time of 36.24, Emily Sullivan was fourth in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:23.75 and Brooklyn Willis was fifth in the 50-yard back stroke in a time of 43.55.

Christie Whitaker was sixth in the 9 and-10 year-old-girls 50-yard free style in a time of 49.08 and ninth in the 25-yard backstroke in times of 28.66.

In the 7 and 8-year-old-girls division, Ali Bennett was fourth in the 25-yard free style in a time of 20.46 and fifth in the 25-yard backstroke in a time of 25.34. Jewel Anvar was fifth in the 50-yard free style in a time of 54.28.

Carissa White was fifth in the 25-yard breaststroke in a time of 33.55 and seventh in the 50-yard free style in a time of 1:02.67.
