Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats right handed pitcher Rion Murrah has been awarded a baseball scholarship at Tallahassee Community College.

Murrah, a 2013 Bainbridge High School graduate, was invited to be a preferred walk on with  the Tallahassee Community College Eagles baseball program last fall. After a successful tryout with the team, he was red shirted by head coach Mike McCloud.

After informing Murrah that he would be given a  baseball scholarship  the paper work was  completed last week with coach McCloud, athletic director Rob Chaney, and Tallahassee Community College president Doctor Jim Murrdaugh signing the documentation.

“He was a great kid, and he was one of the hardest working kids I ever coached,” Bearcat baseball coach Brian McCorkle said. “I’m very happy for him.”

Murrah is currently playing summer baseball with the North Florida Black Sox from Panama City which won the Dizzy Dean state tournament in Saint Petersburg earning them a berth in the Dizzy Dean World Series in South Haven Mississippi later in July.

In seven appearances in games this summer,  Murrah has yet to give up an earned run in nearly 30 innings of work.
